The United States Nurses Health Care Reform is made up of licensed caregivers who are advocates for the rights of all patients to be given access to affordable quality medical treatment, should they need it – and with no regard to their personal, social or economic situation. The group has since pushed the issue all the way to the U. S. Congress, in hopes that the legislation passes.

Many of those registered nurses active in the reform have stood behind these beliefs for decades, working towards their goal any way they could, in order to make sure that all people receive equal medical care – including condition-specific treatments AND preventative measures for wellness maintenance – and, all while being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve from any and all medical staff.

And, if you were to read any of the “mission” statements written in the American Nurses Codes of Ethics manual, you would be able to see how they basically relate to the intent behind the organization’s health care reform project. So, that having been said, read on for some examples of just a few of their main points, in this brief, reworded summary:

The registered nurse is always expected to perform her care giving duties with compassion and understanding. She respects that each client is unique and should be treated with dignity, regardless of their social, financial, or personal preferences and attributes – and, without regard to the nature of their particular medical situation.

The RN willingly protects her patients – and the public, if necessary – from any of those people whose incompetence, illegal practices or unethical behavior adversely affects the safety and well-being of those patients under her care, and others in the vicinity.

The RN agrees to assume all accountability for any individual judgements or decisions she makes regarding the care of her patients. She also agrees to continue her nursing education in order to remain at her highest level of competence for the sake of her patients.

As an RN, you are obligated and agree to participate in keeping the public from being exposed to useless misinformation that could cause a mass hysteria. You also agree to maintain your own integrity, and the integrity of the nursing profession, by acting in a noble and moral manner at all times. And, you agree to work with those persons in other fields of medicine, in order to meet the needs of your patients, the community – and the nation, if applicable.

So now you know a bit more about how the message of the American Nurses Health care reform advocacy group is strongly reflected in relation to the basics in their code of ethics for the nursing profession. And, you probably also realize what a strong force these types of caring individuals are, as spokespersons in the fight to give all American people the same equal and fair treatment, and the same equal and excellent health care they need and deserve.
