Tuesday Nov 10, 2009

Making your own candles is a fun activity for people of all ages. It is not difficult or expensive to carry out, and most of us should have the required equipment in our own kitchens. Also you have the added bonus of knowing that there are no toxic scents or dyes that are in them; you can choose which fragrances and colors to add. They make the perfect gift and you can create them in various interesting shapes and sizes.

There are a few different forms of wax that can be used to make candles today, you do not have to use paraffin gel. Many people dislike paraffin based candles as they give off a lot of soot and burn down quickly. Also, other types of wax produce lesser amounts of melted deposits and what is created can easily be removed from all kinds of surfaces.

Before you start the candle making process you should check that you have all the necessary equipment. A vessel will be required to melt the raw wax. Many people choose to use a double boiler. This is a vessel that looks like a large pot with a smaller one contained inside. The outer pot will contain water for boiling and the smaller pot is where the wax is placed for melting.

Other necessary equipment includes a thermometer, a scale, an old spoon, and a ladle. A measuring cup is also preferential to ensure you have the right amount of melted wax. But the most important ingredient is of course the wax itself. Which type of wax you use is down to your own preference. Today it is easy to purchase the raw material through the internet if you do not have a speciality craft shop in your neighborhood.

Another essential item is wicks. These are usually composed of braided cotton.

If you want to make a very unique candle then you can choose to add various dyes and scents. These should have been created specifically to be used in candle making as other varieties can be flammable and give off toxic smoke.

Herbal Vaporizers Have Many Uses

Wednesday Nov 4, 2009

Specialized heating devices that can be used to activate specific compounds in plant or herbal matter or called vaporizers. The differ from normal heating devices because they can produce specific amounts of heat and raise the temperature of any compound to a precise degree.

There are now many different people in a variety of fields that have found ways to take advantage of the unique capabilities of vaporizers. Massage therapists have used them for aromatherapy, patients have used them for herbal treatments. and even chefs have used them.

Vaporizers are largely dependent on their heating mechanism to function. This means that quality vaporizers that are able to function and produce pure vapor have high quality heating systems. No matter what vaporizers are used for its heating element is a prime element.

For a vaporizer to function properly is must perform to tasks. It must be able to heat herbal matter to a specific temperature and must be able to hold that temperature consistently with little variation. By maintaining a stable temperature vaporizers activate only the desired compounds and nothing else.

If a vaporizer is not working properly or the heater is of poor quality the heat produced could vary raising the temperature. There is a risk that if the temperate gets too high the plant matter could begin burning. This should be avoided at all costs as vaporizers are specifically designed to prevent any type of burning.

A vaporizer that functions properly requires a proper heating mechanism. This means the heating element and control system must be of high quality for the vapor created to be good.

The heating element is the part of the machine used to conduct heat and raise the temperature of the chamber holding the plant matter. Ceramic heating elements are considered the best by most growers although metal is also used in some designs.

Control systems can be either be digital or analog. Digital systems often have buttons and clear displays. Analog systems have knobs and must be tested to determine the best settings.

Matching a Skin Care Product to Your Skin

Wednesday Nov 4, 2009

The right skin care product can do wonders for your skin, but most people aren’t sure exactly how to find that perfection product that does what they want it to. Instead, they bounce around, trying first one product and then another and never really getting the right one. If you are one of these people who simply hasn’t found the perfect skin care product, it’s time to learn just what to look for in the ideal skin care items.

Know Your Skin Type

Do you know what your skin type is:If you have oily or dry skin, it’s probably pretty apparent which you are, but combination skin can be tricky to diagnose. With combination skin, the cheeks tend to be dry and even flaky, while the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) are oily. If that sounds like your face, then you probably have combination skin.

It’s important to know which skin type you have. If you don’t know and you buy a product meant for oily skin, when yours is dry, you won’t get the desired results. There’s really no point in spending money on a product that won’t help your skin the way you need it to.

Check the Ingredients

Even if you don’t tend to have sensitive skin, there are certain ingredients that can really be harsh on the skin. Many skin care products have a variety of chemicals in them that can be quite damaging to skin if not used properly and even in small amounts, can cause skin problems. In general, it’s better to go with all natural ingredients.

Most people don’t really think to check the full ingredient list on their skin care products. It’s easy to get distracted by the big “Contains Vitamin E” or other large print ingredients on the front of the bottle. When a product claims to contain a certain ingredient, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the main ingredient. It’s a good idea to take a look at what the entire product is made up of, not just the most popular ingredients.

Just because something uses herbs or real fruits doesn’t mean it’s ideal for your skin, though. In fact, many natural ingredients are also covered in pesticides which find their way into your skin care items. Fortunately, by choosing organic skin care products, you can avoid this problem. Organic products will be chemical and pesticide free, allowing the skin to breathe and most people won’t have any adverse reaction to organic items.

Test It

One of the best ways to be sure that a product is really the right one for you is to simply test it. Once you have chosen a skin care products that has organic ingredients and matches your skin type, it’s time to try it out and see how it works for you.

When testing skin care products, you’ll want to give them at least a week before making a decision. 3-4 weeks is even better, since it may take a little time for the product to work with your skin, especially if you have pre-existing conditions. For example, if you have particularly dry skin, it could take a couple of weeks for the lotion you use to really penetrate and take effect. The same thing goes for blemish creams and the like. They do tend to take time to work, so give your trial a proper time restriction so you can be sure.

Natural, organic skin care products that have been selected with your particular skin type in mind will always produce better results than those laden with chemicals. They work with the skin to create a healthy epidermis.

Making Scented Candles Will Heal, Calm Down And Sell

Tuesday Nov 3, 2009

Have you ever bought an expensive scented candle only to be disappointed because the scent didn’t last once you took the wrapping off? Making scented candles will take care of that problem. You can choose a brand of scent that won’t evaporate!

In order to start you will need paraffin wax and a metal pan to melt the wax in and to pour from. It is important to have a candy thermometer on hand so the wax doesn’t get too hot and catch fire. Besides these things you will need a wick, a mold, coloring and liquid scent.

Even though candles can be any shape, the easiest form to make and use is the pillar mold. The top and bottom are wide and flat and the shape is a rectangle. The broad base allows it to sit firmly wherever you place it.

You need to decide where you will melt the wax. You may want to use a small hot plate so the liquid wax won’t get on your stove top. If you try to wipe it up every time you pour the wax and it drips, it will ruin whatever you use. Melted wax doesn’t come out of material once it dries.

A pound of paraffin wax will make one normal size pillar candle. Remember to watch your candy thermometer. If the wax reaches 375 degrees it will catch on fire.

Once the wax is melted, add the coloring and the scent a little at a time until it is just what you want. Stir until the color is uniform throughout the wax.

Pull the wick up through the hole in the bottom of the mold, and tie it around a small stick you can lay across the top. Pour the wax slowly into the mold.

Let the wax cool. If it sinks in the center of the candle, slowly add more wax. Once the candle has completely dried and hardened, remove it from the mold and clip the wick to one half inch in length. The final result will be a candle you will be proud of.

Proper Facial Moisturizing Techniques

Tuesday Nov 3, 2009

Moisturizing your face daily keeps your skin looking healthy and younger for many years, which is why it is very important to make it a habit to moisturize. Unfortunately, many men and women fail to reach this step in their skincare routines because of being rushed or simply forgetting. Not moisturizing properly can cause wrinkles, cause the skin to be dry, and causes the skin to lose elasticity. These are very important elements to making sure your face looks refreshed and quenched. Even if you don’t see the benefits immediately, you will see them as you age. In the end, you will be glad you did it and this goes for both men and women.

However, some men believe that they don’t have to moisturize, but this is a common myth. There are facial moisturizers out there for men because it is just as important to delay the aging process as it is for women. Perhaps it is the advertising campaigns for moisturizers that only show women that may be the reason behind this misconception. However, when a man goes to the men’s section of the health and beauty department at their local department store, they will find that there are a lot of different moisturizers for them to use as well.

The trick is knowing exactly how to moisturize. There is actually a right way and a wrong way. The wrong way is not going to be as effective as the right way. What you want to do is make sure you get the most out of your facial moisturizer and the only way you’re going to do that is by following these tips:

- You want to wash your face every single morning with a moisturizing cleaner that is made just for the face.

- After washing your face with your moisturizing cleaner, you want to pat your face dry. You don’t want to rub it because this is considered to be abrasive to the skin.

- If you are a man, you want to shave before you apply any type of product to your face. You want to pay a visit to your health and beauty department at your favorite department store and purchase a shaving cream that is made just for moisturizing the skin.

- If you are a woman, you want to apply the moisturizer before putting on any makeup.

- If you have naturally dry skin, be sure to apply the moisturizer at various points throughout the day.

- At the end of the day, you want to use the face wash you used in the morning to get rid of any dirt that has accumulated on your skin throughout the day. For the women, it is important to remove all makeup.

- You also want to apply a moisturizer before going to bed because when you are asleep is when your body rests and repairs.

By taking these steps, you are properly utilizing your moisturizer by putting it on at the right time during your facial routine. You should clean your face twice a day and throughout the day if your skin is dry. When shopping for a good moisturizer, you want to look at products that have some kind of sun protection. They usually will give you an SPF number and you know the higher the number, the better protection you get from the harmful rays of the sun. This can give you further help in preventing aging and skin cancer. Lastly, be sure to be gentle during washing because you do not want to have to contend with irritation and redness that can be unsightly and uncomfortable.

In order to keep the skin younger and healthier, it’s important to use an organic facial moisturizer that protect and nourish your skin. We are the source for organic skin care and aromatherapy products.

Tips for Natural Looking Makeup

Tuesday Nov 3, 2009

We’ve all seen women who just plaster their makeup on, looking more like a mannequin than an actual person. If you would rather have a natural beauty, you don`t need to go completely bare, it`s all in how you choose and apply your makeup. Here you`ll learn a few tips to keep your face glowing and lovely without resorting to heavy handed techniques. The trick is to keep it light and to highlight just one area of your face, your eyes or your mouth.

Coverage

When it comes to concealer and foundation, many women tend to cake it on in an attempt to hide blemishes. That tends to result in the cracked face issues that occur a little later in the day. By using the following tips, you can make your face look natural while still covering up those spots and blemishes.

- Opt for tinted moisturizer, it blends and evens out the skin while moisturizing and is so thin that it`s literally unnoticeable. - For heavier coverage, use concealer chosen to blend with your skin to dot over spots and then finish the face with a tinted moisturizer for a lighter look. - Concealers with yellow undertones tend to hide blemishes best.

Eyes

Your eyes are one of the first things people notice, so the last thing you want is for them to focus on how much makeup you`re using! - For long lashes, consider using clear mascara to give them volume without adding too much. - Use foundation lightly applied to your lids for a natural boost. This also brightens the eyes and lays an even foundation for any shadow you wish to apply. - Choose eye shadows that enhance your eye color, blue or green eyes look smoking with pink or brown shadows and brown eyes work well with darker plum shades. - When using eyeliner, stay away from black and unnatural shades. Opt for brown or charcoal grey instead and blend slightly to create a natural line.

Lips

Lips don`t have to be bright to be noticeable. If you want your mouth to stand out, but still aim to looknatural make up, leave your eyes simple and focus the color on your mouth.

- Avoid glittery or super glossy lipstick, which looks very made up. - To choose the appropriate color, bite your lips gently to see what color comes up. Match the lipstick color to this. - Make your color last longer with a clear lip gloss to set it. - For days when you want your eyes to be the focus, stick to just a transparent gloss for your lips and let your natural color shine.

Cheeks

Blush should give the impression that you`ve just jogged half a mile, with a natural glow spreading over the cheekbones. Be sure you choose the right colors and don`t overdo it, the attention should be drawn to your eyes or lips, not your cheekbones.

- Check your cheek color after a bit of exercise to choose the right blush. Alternatively, you can just pinch them to bring up the color, but this won`t tell you where the blush should be applied. - Apply blush in the same areas that you naturally color when exercising for a truly natural looking makeup. - Keep it light. You just want a dusting of color, nothing too obvious.

Natural looking makeup lets you look your best without making it appear that you`ve had help. People will be impressed at how fresh your face looks. Even with a very little amount of makeup, you`ll feel beautiful and ready to face the world.
